People who join Capital CrossFit come because they want to improve their health and fitness, and stay because of the community, and the community came together in a big way for Trisha Vamosi, a member since March 2020. Trisha had been training to compete in the 4th Annual Virginia is for Lifters! powerlifting meet on September 12, 2020 until the United States Powerlifting Association (USPA) canceled the meet (as well as many others) four days prior because of internal conflict. When Trisha’s friends and coaches heard the bad news, they created a mock powerlifting meet to replace the usual Saturday CrossFit schedule, all while social distancing!
The mock powerlifting meet proved the strength of the Capital CrossFit community as many members set personal records in back squat, bench press, and deadlift. Trisha’s training paid off as she lifted 245 pounds, 105 pounds, and 315 pounds in the lifts, respectively.
