Capital MMA Student Defends Store Manager From Knife Attack | Reports of Violence on the Rise

There has been an increase in the number of reports coming from Capital MMA & Elite Fitness members who have needed to use skills taught in our self-defense classes. Three of these reports are particularly troubling as the assailants had knives. In each case Capital’s practitioners gained control of the situation before police arrived.

The most recent story took place yesterday evening at 9:30PM when Marquise Allen Brown stopped at a CVS and witnessed a customer arguing with the store’s manager. The argument escalated and the customer pulled out a knife and advanced towards the manager. This video shows security camera footage of what ensued. You’ll see how Marquise quickly takes the assailant down, disarms him, and without injuring him keeps everybody safe before police arrive.

Capital MMA & Elite Fitness was established in 2001 as a Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school. Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu originated as the ultimate form of self-defense. It’s the very reason why the founders began taking on challenge matches, and then created the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Capital has the only black belts in the Washington DC Metropolitan area under the original Ultimate Fighting Champion – and world’s leading self-defense expert – Royce Gracie. Capital prides itself on offering training and facilities for evidence based mixed martial arts and elite fitness programs. Our mission is to provide friendly, fun, and safe training facilities where every member’s training goals – whether for recreation or performance at the highest levels – are regarded equally.
